Bradford City Women vs Leeds United

Well yesterday was finally time for me to head down to my first Bradford City women's game at Eccleshill United's ground. It may have been freezing and raining but we weren't missing this one, a local derby. What did surprise me though was the crowd of 166 watching, which for a freezing cold Wednesday night is a brilliant attendance.

However, the game didn't go to plan for either side. From kick off Leeds looked threatening and this was proved when they took a short corner and took a shot from it which only just stayed out of the goal thanks to the post. It didn't take long for them to find the goal though as a great header put the ball beyond Routledge however, the linesman flagged off side keeping the score at 0-0.

City did have a few chances of their own thanks to Sumaili but they just couldn't break through. City's number 8 Norde did well getting through midfield and defence on multiple occasions however, it was just that final ball that was an issue and unable to get the ball in a dangerous position for City.

Leeds were awarded a penalty after what looked to be a late challenge and the ball was slotted home to put them 1-0 up. Routledge though did get her hands to the ball but was unable to keep the ball out. Routledge did come out and make some good stops throughout the game and honestly I now know why everyone says she is such a good keeper as she isn't afraid to put her body on the line to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

It didn't take too long for Leeds to go up 2-0 after a cross found it's way over Routledge and an easy tap in occurred for Leeds.

Unfortunately though in the 33rd minute a nasty collision occurred leaving both City's Chelsea Sandford and Leed's Molly Havard down on the ground. The referee sent both teams to the changing rooms as the players received treatment but after a lengthy delay ended up abandoning the game. Both players however, did manage to walk of the pitch which is a good sign.

As of this morning the BCWFC twitter tweeted the following 'Chelsea was released from hospital at around 4am this morning after having a nasty head wound repaired' They are still awaiting news on Molly's condition.

I hope both players have a speedy recovery and I am really looking to going to another gaming very soon.

See you soon
Lucy
