Finally after 6 months of waiting my new tattoo is finally done. This tattoo has been a long time in the making and after thinking carefully about what I wanted, having to reschedule my original date finally just over 6 months after the Lionesses historic win I finally have the tattoo to commemorate the day and overall the best summer of my life so far.
Anyone who knows me will tell you football is a big part of who I am, I have played since a young age and also watched the game in general since being young at this point my days are basically always filled with some form of football especially since the launch of my very own women's football website which is one of my biggest priorities. I have even got back into playing the beautiful game which actually came off the back of the win which I guess just makes this new tattoo that bit more special too as I never expected to get back playing.
With how much I love tattoos and football it was almost inevitable that at some point I got something football related tattooed on my body but I just wasn't 100% sure on what I wanted until the best summer ever took place. As I sat in Wembley after the Lionesses lifted their first major trophy I knew I wanted something that combined my love for the game whilst also having that special link to those history makers. What better way to do it than having a football alongside the trophy they made history with and the date it happened, I also had to include the quote from the captain Leah Williamson that stands out more than anything else for some reason. I think a lot of people wrote the team off at first due to the young team but they proved everyone wrong which I love and wanted to have a reminder of as it just goes to show if you want it enough nothing matters and if you believe it can soon become a reality. The date being a part of the tattoo is just a bit of an added extra really and I have joked I will just keep adding dates for any future Euros they win underneath this however, I don't think anything will standout more than this date as they won it on home soil.
As I said football really is my escape and always has been really, I don't shut up about it and I follow plenty of leagues all around the world I just can't get enough of it. I had to stop playing for a while due to a knee injury but this Euros win really encouraged me to get back playing alongside writing about the game and that is also part of the reason I got the tattoo on my left leg. This is the leg that causes the issue however, as a left footed player it is also the one I rely on the most, I guess placing the tattoo on here just gives it that bit more extra meaning to me personally and as funny as it sounds to others just gives me that bit more mental strength when my knee starts acting up.
The Lionesses that led the team to success in July 2022 really are history makers as they finally pushed past that semi-final curse and finally brought football home for the women who had been so close before but just couldn't get past the final hurdle. The tattoo also marks a fantastic summer where me and Liam traveled to plenty of games together and made some fantastic memories doing so, from the opening game at Old Trafford with my mum to me and Liam joining the amazing Netherlands fan walk and cheering on a whole host of nations before finishing off with that unforgettable day in Wembley which saw Leah Williamson lifting the silverware in front of a record breaking crowd again just showing how much the game grew in an unforgettable summer for so many. It really is going to take a lot to beat the summer of 2022 for me and I don't think many more summers will get a tattoo to remind me of the outcome, unless we win the World Cup this year and more major tournaments in the future.
I absolutely love the finished result of this tattoo and can honestly say it has turned out better than I could have ever imagined. I am sure that there will be plenty more tattoos added to my body in the future and no doubt there will be more football ones with just how much my life seems to revolve around it, let's just hope that I will be planning a new one this summer to commemorate a first World Cup win for the Lionesses, I can dream right?
